Herring Girl House
Herring Girl House
Herring Girl House is perfectly situated for a holiday in Scarborough. Right on the seafront in the South Bay, opposite the harbour; less than 5 minutes from the beach; 10 minutes into town; on the bus route for the Open Top buses to the North Bay and Open Air Theatre, walking distance to the museums; 20 minute walk to the theatre, 10 to the Spa.
Herring Girl House is all about the views: every window in the house has a view of the sea. We've brought this theme inside too, merging stormy hues with seaside blues, pirate maps, gulls and nautical lamps. Around every corner you'll find a quirky feature: melding 300 years of history with modern conveniences and luxury living to give you a holiday base like no other.
Originally two houses, now joined, the space is perfect for two families to share. The original staircases, now carpeted, wind through the house, with rope bannisters in keeping the nautical history.
Our breakfast bar and dining area seats 8 and sits between the kitchen and first floor lounge. The kitchen is fully equipped with cooker, hob, fridge, small freezer, wine cooler and dishwasher. On the breakfast bar is a Nespresso machine, kettle, toaster and all the necessary paraphernalia for making tea, coffee and a light breakfast.
Our two lounges, both with harbour views, are great places to watch the world go by, socialise or generally chill out. The first floor lounge has a TV and the ground floor one is a place for peaceful reading, chatting, playing games or hiding from the kids. The fireplace is original and is 300 years old. Unfortunately it is no longer in use but is a great centre piece for the room.
With two master bedrooms, one ensuite, and 2 twin attic bedrooms, herring Girl House sleeps 8 people in comfort. We spared no expense on beds and linen, so which ever room you choose, your sleep will be luxurious.
There are 2 main staircases that wind steeply through the house, joining two houses and 4 floors together. All have strong rope bannisters that are easy to grip hold of and will take lots of weight.
